Summary:
The Visitor Center, at 9300 feet on Mauna Kea, first opened its doors in 1984. It was merely a comfort station for tourists returning from the 14,000-foot summit. It was renamed the Onizuka Center for International Astronomy in 1987. Now, much has changed. It offers stargazing four nights a week, summit tours on weekends, and a warm place for visitors to learn about astronomy.
