Summary:
Managing introduced ungulates is critical in protecting mamane forest - habitat of the endangered Hawaiian honeycreeper, palila. Hunting and aerial shooting temporarily reduced the population of ungulates and allowed some habitat improvement. However, the population recovered rapidly. Only the complete removal of the ungulates is necessary for palila to recover.
