Summary:
The survey instrument consists of the Slope-Detection and Ranging (SLODAR) and Low-Layer SCIntillation Detection and Ranging (SCIDAR)(LOLAS). The results indicated that the optical turbulence near the ground at the summit of Mauna Kea is confined to the first few tens of metres and that the free atmospheric seeing is excellent above the site. Ground-layer adaptive optics (GLAO) can be very effective in correcting this turbulence.
