Hawaii has lost more than half of its endemic avifauna with little supporting evidence with regard to the limiting factors that have been responsible for the demise of many native Hawaiian birds. This document describes six limiting factors that have been operative on the native Hawaiian avifauna such as habitat changes, human and nonhuman predation, avian competition, parasites, and diseases, as well as abiotic factors.
