- This document describes the cooperations among U.S. Army, the Coast Guard Cutter Itasca, the Parker Ranch, the Hawaiian Department, and a number of scientists, and the Hawaiian Academy of Science, which enabled the Mauna Kea expedition. The expedition recorded two weeks' meteorological data at Lake Waiau; studied in detail by Dr. Wentworth the glaciation and volcanic activity on the dome; took samples of water, algae, plankton, and insects in and around Lake Waiau; found and collected specimens of silversword on the upper slope.
