Fred Chaffee, director of Keck Observatory, wrote to respond to Tom Peek's article "California astronomers strain Hawaii's aloha" appeared in the March 16-31 issue of the journal. What Mr. Peek presented was a thing of past, said Mr. Chaffee. Officials and astronomers on Mauna Kea have learned to respect the sensitivity of cultural and environmental aspects of Mauna Kea. Authors of scientific papers using Mauna Kea telescopes are asked to include acknowledgement to Mauna Kea and Hawaiian community.
