Summary:
Mauna Kea attracted a large number of powerful telescopes including the planned Thirty Meter Telescope. The astronomy industry has invested more than $1 billion in total capital infrastructure. It also employs roughly 600 people and contributes more than $150 million annually to the island's economy. TMT also contributes $1 million per year toward local education and workforce pipleline program. Also contains a spotlight on UH Hilo's astronomy department and its involvement in the outreach programs such as Journey through the Universe, Onizuka Science Day, and AstroDay.
