- Summary:
- Keck telescope is under construction on the summit of Mauna Kea and is 3 years from full operation. The telescope consists of 36 hexagonal mirrors. Each mirror is about 3 inches thick and 880 pounds. The telescope has been designed to allow for additions. But there are no firm plans as to when the second telescope will be installed. With illustrations of the telescope support structures and a photo of the unfinished dome under construction.
