Summary:
Two groups of astronomers race to build the next biggest optical telescope. One is led by Jerry Nelson of Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory in California planning to build a segmented 10-meter telescope (TMT) and the other is led by Roger Angle of University of Arizona planning to build a single piece large telescope. The two groups are also neck and neck in the race to build a federal funded 15-m National New Technology telescope.
