Summary:
Subaru telescope will release its first light images on Jan. 28. The mirror of the telescope is 8.3 meters in diameter and 8 inches thin. The mirror is supported by 264 actuators. The mirror glass was made by Corning Glass Works in New York and ground and polished by Contraves in Pittsburgh. Then it was shipped down the Mississippi River, across the Caribbean, through the Panama Canal and over the Pacific. With pictures of Mauna Kea summit and Subaru telescope.
