- Summary:
- In the 1960s and 1970s, seven exclosure sites on Mauna Kea, Hawaii were set up to study the long-term response of the mamane forest from feral sheep grazing as well as the impact of the non-native plants. The mamane forest provides essential habitat for palila, an endangered bird. Over the years, the enclosed areas have shown substantial growth of the mamane forest.
