Hawaiian Rainband Project Numerical simulations Orographic airflow Thermal properties
Summary:
The authors used the fifth-generation Pennsylvania State University-NCAR Mesoscale Model (MM5)/land surface model (LSM) to simulate the diurnal island scale circulations over the Big Island of Hawaii during the Hawaiian Rainband Project (HaRP). The simulated diurnal land-sea thermal contrast and the diurnal evolution of planetary boundary layer at Hilo are in good agreement with observations.
