In this paper, the author describes material, such as surface ash deposits, cinders, flames, and even heavy stones that were ejected, thrown a great distance, and accompanied by intense lightning and heavy thunder that resulted from violent and explosive eruptions that took place at Kilauea in 1789. Also described are similar features of other volcanic eruptions that have taken place on the Island of Hawaii.
