This document provides a history of the Palila (Psittirostra bailleui), one of the larger native Hawaiian land birds, that currently an endangered species. The physical characteristics, habitat, feeding and breeding habits, are described. Information regarding the current status of these birds, as well as the threats, the causes for destruction and gradual decline of the Mamane-Naio forest, and a suggestion for a management plan is also provided.
