Summary:
This document describes how the Ohia (Metrosideros collina subsp. polymorpha) forests, that are located on the island of Hawaii, became infected with a fungus known as the Pathogenicity of Phytophthora cinnamomi Rands. This fungus, that has been associated with major declines of other forest trees, caused the ohia forests to decline at an increasing rate. Environmental factors also influenced the contribution that the P. cinnamomi had on the tree decline. As a result, the objective of this study was to determine the association and significance that the P. cinnamomi had on the decline of the native ohia forests of Hawaii.
