Summary:
The Apapane (Himatione sanguinea), is one of the few members of the Hawaiian honeycreeper family (Drepanididae) that are still numerous around the State of Hawaii. In this document, the author describes Apapane nests that were found in lava caves that are located on the southwest slope of Mauna Loa and Hualalai at an elevation of approximately 5,300 feet.
