Summary:

The common mullein is a serious weed pest that is found on the roadsides and in the industrial areas of the western United States and is one of the first species to invade the roadsides that have been treated with soil-active herbicides. However, the leaves of the rosettes have a dense felt-like pubescent covering that hinders wetting and makes this weed difficult to control. As a result, the purpose of this study was to investigate the effect that temperature and light on the seed germination and seedbed ecology has on the common mullein in roadside environments. Here, the germination of the common mullein (Verbascum thapsus L.) was studied in relation to constant and alternating temperatures, and light quality and duration.
