- Summary:
- Once occurring on five of the six major Hawaiian islands and the second most abundant native land bird in the archipelago, was a small passerine of the endemic Hawaiian Drepanidinae known as the Common Amakihi, (Hemignathus virens). From 1970 - 1981, the nesting behavior of Common Amakihi was studied on the island of Hawaii in an effort to determine if the species altered nest placement over a protracted nine-month breeding season.
