Summary:
This paper is based upon a study of the endemic Hawaiian species of the genus Sophora L. Previous to the present revision, these endemic taxa were identified as: Sophora chrysophylla, S. chrysophylla var. glabrata, S. grisea and the taxon unifoliata as a variety of S. chrysophylla or as a species. In addition to these species, there are three introduced species in the Hawaiian Islands: S. tomentosa L., S. japonica L., and S. tetraptera. The latter two were introduced by Rock (1920: 21). These species are not included in this revision. This part of a thesis submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Science in Botany at the University of Hawaii, June, 1953.
