Summary:
Three general groups of birds are found in Hawaii today -- the endemic, the indigenous, and the introduced. In this document, endemic Hawaiian birds are listed according to 11 families and are discussed. These include the: 1) Anatidae (ducks, geese, and swans), 2) Accipitridae (hawks, kites, and eagles), 3) Rallidae (rails, gallinules, and coots), 4) Recurvirostridae (avocets and stilts), 5) Stridgidae (owls), 6) Corvidae (crows, jays, and magpies), 7) Turdidae (thrush family), 8) Sylviidae (Old World warbler family), 9) Muscicapidae (Old World flycatcher family), 10) Meliphagidae (honeyeater family), and 11) Drepanididae (Hawaiian honeycreepers).
