Hawaii Amakihi Hemignathus virens Sophora chrysophylla Nesting success
Summary:
While avian ecologists often speak of food-limited populations of birds, evidence of competition for a specific food supply during a breeding season seem to be lacking. As a result, the objectives of this study were to investigate the influence that nectar resources have on: (1) territory establishment, (2) breeding success, and (3) post breeding dispersal in the Common Amakihi (Hemignathus virens) that live on Mauna Kea on the island of Hawaii.
