Mauna Kea Forest Reserve Mamane Mamane-naio forest
Summary:
The observations of Pueo nests that were found with owlets or eggs on the slopes of Mauna Kea in 1993 during the months of March, May, August, November, and December lead the author to believe that Pueo nests throughout the year in Hawaii. However, the author also believes that nesting by Pueo that is done in the dry mamne-naio forest of Mauna Kea is seasonal with peak nesting that occurs from March - June which seems to coincide with the peak breeding seasons of other forest bird species.
