This report presents the results of an archaeological reconnaissance of a portion of the Pohakuloa Training Area pipeline located above the military installation on the south flank of Mauna Kea, island of Hawaii. The focus of the survey was on the catchment areas, Hopukani, Waihu, and Liloe Springs, located between c. 10,400 and 8,640 ft elevations. The project area is an integral part of the Mauna Kea Adze Quarry, a Hawaii and National Register of Historic Places site, as well as a National Historic Landmark. The purpose of the survey was to provide information for preparation of a Conservation Use Application and Environmental Assessment for repair/upgrade of the existing spring water catchment system. General and site-specific recommendations are included. The report was prepared for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Pacific Ocean Division and submitted in a letter dated August 22, 1979 to Mr. Francis Oda, Group 70.
