Summary:
This document describes the history of the once abundant Mauna Kea silversword, (Argyroxiphium sandwicense), and the serious decline that has occurred of this plant as a result of introduced and grazing feral sheep as they started to inhabit the upper slopes of Mauna Kea. Also described are restoration efforts that went into effect as a renewed interest in the plight of the silversword began on the island of Hawaii in the early 1970s.
