Acacia psyllid Trees diseases
Summary:
The Psylla uncatoides is a pest that is thought to be from New Zealand. In 1955, it was found on Acacia melanoxylon and Albizia julibrissin and was reported as fairly widespread in southern California. The injury caused to these plants was identified by a browning of the young foliage by the psyllids and the development of sooty mold resulting from the honeydew secretions. This document describes the method that was used in determining further occurrence of the P. unacatoides in the Los Angeles State and County Arboretum through samples collected from March - June, 1965, the results that suggested that certain species were not susceptible to the psyllid problem, the spray applications that were tested in an effort to control the growth of psyllids, and the results obtained following the use of the spray applications.
