Summary:
This document describes a ruling that was handed down by a federal judge, Samuel P. King, who ordered the State of Hawaii to work out an eradication program for the wild sheep and goats that occur on Mauna Kea as it was felt that these ungulates were destroying the mamane-naio forests that is critical habitat for the Palila (Psittirostra bailleui), a endangered Hawaiian honeycreeper. This was a welcomed decision by many, such as the Hawaii Audubon Society, who waited for more than 18 months for a resolution to this case.
