- Summary:
- The purpose of this study was to determine if the placement, composition, or insulation of the nests of the Common Amakihi, (Hemignathus virens virens), from the island of Hawaii, varied with meterological conditions at the time of nesting. As a result, more than 90 nests were examined in this study that were located in the Kohala Mountain and on Mauna Kea. The differences of the nest compositions, the thermal conductance of the nests, and the areas in which the nests were built within the trees that were found in these areas are described.
