The Elepaio (Chasiempis), is one of the most abundant of the island birds and inhabits areas from highest point of the forest and down to the sea. However, being sedentary does not migrate from place to place in search of food. As a result, it is often the last bird to forsake a tract of forest as encroachments to their habitat occur.
