Summary:
In this study, fourteen sediment samples were analyzed by X-ray diffraction for their mineral composition. These samples were taken from a tropical alpine lake in Hawaii, known as Lake Waiau. Plagioclase, derived from local tephra, is the major mineral while others were weathering products such as montmorillonite, geothite, of and eolian origin, quartz was also another major mineral that was present as was a diagenetic mineral that is known as vivianite.
