Summary

Exercises delegated as Principal Investigator (PI) authority for Maunakea Observatories Shared Services (MKSS) accounts and operations. Coordinates supervision with Center for Maunakea Stewardship (CMS) of administrative staff in carrying out personnel, fiscal, and logistical tasks. Interacts with Maunakea Observatory organizations through MKSS Oversight Committee and through day-to-day contacts. Interacts and coordinates activities with the Center for Maunakea Stewardship, the University of Hawai‘i (UH) at Hilo, and other organizations. Assists with preparation and manages annual budget and assists in presenting to Oversight Committee. Oversees the management of the food and lodging operations, maintenance operations, and visitor information station functions. Coordinates special projects.

Requirements

Education: Bachelorʻs Degree from an accredited four (4) year college of university. Experience: Eight to ten (8-10) years of experience in personnel and fiscal management. Experience in recruiting and managing personnel. Knowledge: Knowledge of employment and personnel regulations. Knowledge of safety management, food & Lodging management, road maintenance, equipment/infrastructure maintenance/management. Knowledge of purchasing and inventory requirements and restrictions. Abilities & Skills: Able to schedule, direct, coordinate, plan, negotiate and delegate to manage a multi-support operation. Ability to create and balance budgets. Must possess a valid driverʻs license (and if use of personal vehicle on the job is required, must also have valid personal driverʻs insurance equivalent to Hawaiiʻs no Fault Driverʻs Insurance) and maintain through the duration of employment.

Additional Information

Post Offer/Employment Condition: Must be able to work at 14,000 feet and pass a post offer high-altitude medical examination. Policy Regulatory Requirement: As a condition of employment, employee will be subject to all applicabe RCUH policies and procedures and, as applicable, subject to University of Hawaiiʻs and/or business entityʻs policies and procedures. Violation of RCUHʻs UHʻs or business entityʻs policies and procedures or applicable State or Federal laws and/or regulations may lead to disciplinary action (including, but not limited to possible termination of employment, personal fines, civil and/or criminal penalties, etc.) SECONDARY QUALIFICATIONS: Masterʻs degree from an accredited college or university in Business Administration, Accounting, or related field. Experience working with State, University and RCUH personnel and fiscal systems. Experience working with astronomical observatories.

About Maunakea Shared Services

Maunakea Shared Services (MKSS) provides operational and logistical support for shared services to all observatories and the facilities at Halepōhaku. MKSS operates the Visitor Information Station at the 9300 ft. elevation, provides free stargazing, Hawaiian cultural and scientific programs to the public. MKSS supports the ranger services under the direction of the Center for Maunakea Stewardship.
