UH Hilo Math Placement Assessment

The Math Placement Assessment covers topics in College Algebra, Precalculus Functions, and Trigonometry, and determines which UH Hilo Math course aligns with your demonstrated knowledge.

You have one hour to complete three sections with 10 multiple choice questions per section. Each correct response counts as one point; incorrect or blank responses are scored as zero.

Students will be place into one or more of the following courses based upon the final score earned.

  • MATH 135T Precalc: Elementary Functions with Tutorail
  • MATH 135 Precalc: Elementary Functions
  • MATH 140 Precalc: Trig/Analytic Geometry
  • MATH 140X Precalculus
  • MATH 241 Calculus I

If you want to register for a course higher than MATH 241, please contact the Mathematics faculty member teaching that course. These requests are evaluated on a case by case basis.

Do not take this exam if you plan to register for MATH 100 Survey of Math or MATH 115 Intro to Statistics & Probability.
