Government Documents and Maps

About the Government Documents Collection

Mookini Library is a congressionally designated depository for U.S. Government documents. Public access to the government documents collection is guaranteed by public law. (Title 44 United States Code)

Government documents are materials published by the federal government at government expense. They include Congressional hearings, departmental publications, maps, periodicals, labor statistics, the U.S. Census information, and much more. This library receives about 8% of all federal documents published.

Most documents in print are available in the Government Documents Collection on the 3rd floor (Upper Level) of the Library and arranged on the shelves according to the Superintendent of Documents (SuDoc) classification system. Many more documents are freely accessible online. State documents are found in the Hawaiian Collection.

To find online government information, use the Catalog of U.S. Government Publications (July 1976 - present) to find specific titles. If you need assistance, please contact us at the Information Desk on the 2nd floor (Main Level) or at (808) 932-7296.

For State of Hawai╩╗i government documents, please visit or contact the Hawaiian Collection.
