Memorandum of Agreement between Kapiʻolani Community College (KCC) and University of Hawaiʻi Hilo

KCC Associate of Science Degree in Nursing (RN) to UH Hilo Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)

This agreement will facilitate the pathway from the KCC Associate of Science Degree in Nursing (RN) to UH Hilo Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). The pathway enables students to complete the twenty-seven credit program in one summer session and three semesters. Appendix A specifies preconditions and prerequisites for students with the RN to enter and complete the BSN program.

Students will initially be admitted to UH Hilo as “Pre-Nursing” students (meaning Pre-BSN program) and will be reclassified as “Nursing” students upon completion of the preconditions and prerequisites.

Under the terms of this Agreement, Kapiʻolani Community College agrees to:

  6. Cooperate with UH Hilo on dual enrollment processes to benefit the matriculation and transfer processes for the ADN and BSN program.
  7. Identify, review, and approve clinical sites and clinical supervisors on Oahu where students can complete Nurs 347L, Nurs 410L, and Nurs 457L, and notify UH Hilo so that the hiring and related processes can be completed.

Under the terms of this Agreement, the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo agrees to:

  1. Identify a Nursing school faculty advisor(s) at who will partner with KCC’s advisor(s) to ensure timely and accurate advising on pre-admission, admission, degree requirements and other related advising information.
  2. Meet with KCC faculty and/or administration minimally every two years, or on an as needed basis, to discuss potential and planned curricular changes.
  3. Cooperate with KCC on dual enrollment processes to benefit the matriculation and transfer processes for the ADN and BSN program.
  4. Upon the recommendation of KCC, hire and pay for clinical supervisors for program students at sites identified and approved by KCC.

This Memorandum of Agreement is effective beginning spring 2011. This Agreement will be reviewed minimally every two years or as necessary in order to support the transfer, matriculation and graduation of ADN and BSN students from both the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo and Kapiʻolani Community College. In particular, changes to the curricular requirements of either program subsequent to this agreement may require revisions to the agreement.

Should both parties agree to terminate the Agreement, UH Hilo will honor the Agreements stipulations for students currently enrolled in the program at the time of termination.
