Professor Morrison researches women’s health and domestic violence in Hilo. Her topics include inquiry into menopause, domestic violence, and breastfeeding practices of young women, all conducted about women in Hilo.
Professor Emeritus Brown researches psychosocial stress and ethnic health disparities. His work grows out of interest in how humans, individually and in populations, adapt to environmental stress.
The research team is studying early Hawaiian stone tools to learn about natural resources, culture and trade. The work is providing unprecedented and sometimes surprising information on economic relationships between ahupua‘a and even between islands.
