SCA’s mission is to build the next generation of conservation leaders and inspire lifelong stewardship of the environment and communities by engaging young people in hands-on service to the land.

2017 marks the Student Conservation Association’s 60th Anniversary. As we look back and remember, what becomes abundantly clear is that while times change, SCA remains a stalwart presence for conservation and our country. The young people with whom we work gain an adeptness, an ability to press beyond whatever challenge comes next.

From archaeology to zoology, SCA members work in a range of different disciplines. Whether your dream is to be a ranger patrolling the backcountry or an environmental educator leading field trips, a biologist monitoring wildlife or an urban planner working to engage local communities, your career can start with SCA.

Most SCA members focus their service in the following areas. Each position is tagged as falling into a maximum of five of these categories These categories help applicants and partners better understand what a position entails and how best to find the appropriate member with the right skills, interests, and experience.

1. Visitor services and site operations
2. Education and interpretation
3. Natural resource management
4. Recreation management
5. Cultural and historical resource management,
6. Geographic information systems (GIS/GPS)
7. Sustainability
8. Back country and trail work
9. Wildlife management

Qualifications vary based on internship type.
