Cancellation of Fall 2020 UH Hilo International Exchange Programs

In response to the ongoing global pandemic and after careful deliberation, the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo has made the difficult decision to cancel all inbound and outbound international student exchange programs for the 2020-21 academic year.

This decision was made as a result of the uncertainties that continue to surround the public health situation worldwide. International education has been especially impacted by the effects of the pandemic due to travel and immigration restrictions, the uncertainty regarding the availability of classes, and increased housing limitations as a result of social-distancing measures. While this was a difficult decision to make, it was made in the interest of protecting the health and welfare of UH students and those from our partner universities.

This is disappointing news for all of us, especially our students, but it was necessary for this decision to be made now in order to give our students enough time to make alternate plans for the fall and subsequent terms. As two of the most diverse four-year universities in the United States, UH Mānoa and UH Hilo recognize how important our exchange programs are to maintaining and enhancing the diversity on our campus, and we remain committed to exchange programs and student mobility.

If you are a prospective outbound student, please contact Carolina Lam . If you are a prospective inbound student, please contact Todd Shumway . For general inquiries, please contact uhhglobe@hawaii.edu.

Once again, we would like to share our sincerest regrets and apologies with all of you. We hope we will still be able to help you achieve your study abroad goals in the 2021-22 academic year.
