'Ike Wai Summer Bridge Program in Data Science 2018

Requirements for ʻIke Wai Bridge Program:

  • Current UH Hilo or UH Hilo bound student who has not yet taken MATH205 [Course Not Found] or higher
  • Placement into MATH 140X Precalculus (4) or MATH205 [Course Not Found]
  • Interest in working with working data as an undergraduate
  • Availability during June 27 - August 1 (M-F 9am - 4pm)

What do students get?

  • 5-week summer experience introducing them to data science
  • Course Credit for MATH 140X Precalculus (4) or MATH205 [Course Not Found] (with successful completion of course during the bridge program)
  • Course Credit for CS 194 (3) Data Science Fundamentals in R (with successful completion of course during the bridge program)
  • $1,000 Stipend
  • All fees paid for courses, etc. This program is no cost to accepted students

What will students do during the ʻIke Wai bridge program?

  • Take a MATH 140X Precalculus (4) or MATH205 [Course Not Found] course with a UH Hilo professor
  • Take CS 194 Data Science Fundamentals with R with UH Professors
  • Learn basic programming and data science techniques while working on mini data science projects
  • Learn about data science academic and career opportunities at UH Hilo related to data science
