Chuuk, Federated States of Micronesia

T.J. Ungeni

Tirow, T.J. Ungeni is my name and I am from the Islands of Chuuk State (FSM). I graduated with a two-year degree in education at the College of Micronesia. I am currently a student here at University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo, and I am majoring in Communication. My hobbies are singing and chatting online. My future goal is to return home with a higher degree and help the young students of Chuuk. I am grateful to have the opportunity to be a part of this group of writers and to be able to share my poems. I apologize if my writings are offensive to some readers who are not of my culture. Again, I would like to thank all for this opportunity. Kinisou chapur, T-Paik.

Excerpt from Making Waves

Kuun fruit photo

It grows on the shore, and every time it bears bare fruits.
One day it drops into the sand,
A wave takes it out, out to the sea
For days and nights, it floats on the sea
Heading towards any direction—
Where the wind blows, and the currents run
Destination unknown, the distance unclear.
But on a day or in the night,
It arrives at its new place
It grows to bear fruits to drop on shore
To wait for the wave again.
