Chuuk, Federated States of Micronesia
My name is Achena Narlyn Finik. I consider myself a Chuukese, although I was raised on the Island of Saipan. Specifically, I am from the lagoon islands of Weno and Tonoas. I recently graduated with a B.A. in Anthropology and a minor in Sociology from the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo. As of now I am trying to live life like my beloved Gandhi and hopefully I will have the enthusiasm to do something good. I dream of winning the Nobel Peace Prize someday.
My writings are mainly about things that happened in my life or about things that I am concerned about. There's a great fluctuation of mood in my work and that's because my daily life is like that. I apologize if I may offend some readers with my work but I do believe that I am entitled to my own opinion. With all respect, I appreciate your sincerity in taking the time to read my poetry. Kinisou chapur, Achena.

Excerpt from Making Waves
Island Romeo
Close-up of a Chuukese Skirt
A brown skinned,
Fat, Drunk,
Micronesian with hairy legs
And a golden tooth. He struts like John Travolta,
Makes tapes for his lover,
One in every apartment on the block. He smiles and winks at the same time.
Is it a broken eye?
Or just one of his flirty moves? He hugs and holds his can of Bud Light
Like his own kids.
He loves his Bud Light too much—
He often forgets about reality.
