Students Traveling (Back) to Hilo for Fall 2021

Added 11 August.

Under Governor David Ige’s Twenty-First Proclamation related to the COVID-19 Emergency, issued June 7, 2021, travelers entering the State are subject to a mandatory 10-day quarantine, or the duration of the person’s presence in the State, whichever is shorter. Below is information that might be helpful in understanding this mandate.

Traveling to Hawaiʻi from inside the United States

Students entering Hawai’i who have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19 in the United States may bypass quarantine without an approved pre-travel COVID-19 test. If you have not been fully vaccinated, you must get an approved pre-travel COVID-19 test within 72 hours prior to your departure to bypass quarantine.

Traveling to Hawaiʻi from outside the United States

Students entering Hawaiʻi from outside the United States must get an approved pre-travel COVID-19 test to bypass quarantine even if you have received a COVID-19 vaccine. Approved pre-travel tests are currently only available outside the United States in Canada, Japan, Taiwan, South Korea, Tahiti, and the Philippines. View a list of approved pre-travel testing sites.

Modified Quarantine option for UH Hilo students

Students coming from countries that do not have access to testing with Trusted Testing and Traveler Partners (TTTPs) or from cities where TTTPs are not available must comply with the State of Hawaiʻi’s mandatory 10-day quarantine or may register to participate in UH Hilo’s modified quarantine program. View more information about UH Hilo’s modified quarantine program.
