FC Motions 2007-2008
The University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo Faculty Congress is the policy making body of UH Hilo for all academic matters of concern to more than one unit. On UH system-wide issues, the Congress conveys the views of the UH Hilo faculty to the UH President through the UH Hilo Chancellor.

The executive committee moved that Faculty Congress specially recognize the Regent's Medal teaching award that will be presented to Dr. Raina Ivanova at Fall Commencement.
- Resolution of Appreciation for Dr. Raina Ivanova:
- Whereas, Dr. Raina Ivanova has been selected as the 2007 recipient of the Board of Regents'; Medal for Excellence in Teaching for the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo; and
- Whereas, Dr. Raina Ivanova has been recognized for her extraordinary level of subject mastery and scholarship, teaching effectiveness and creativity, and personal values beneficial to students; be it
- Resolved, that the University of Hawaiʻi Faculty Congress congratulates Dr. Raina Ivanova in being selected for this prestigious award, and be it further
- Resolved, that the University of Hawaiʻi Faculty Congress extends its warmest aloha and appreciation for all the good work and service accomplishments of Dr. Raina Ivanova and look forward to working with her in the future.

- Approved: Resolution was read and a special plaque was presented to Dr. Ivanova at the Fall 2007 commencement ceremony on behalf of Faculty Congress.

- Motion on "High-Three" Retirement Calculation
- The UH Hilo Congress supports UHPA’s initiative to address this issue on the calculation of faculty member's highest three years of income.

Motion on Funding Salary Adjustments
The UH Hilo Congress requests that the UH Hilo Chancellor and senior UH Hilo administrators set aside 2% of the total UH Hilo salary base annually to fund faculty salary adjustment requests. The UH Hilo Congress further urges the UH Hilo Administration to establish such a salary adjustment fund immediately and solicit faculty salary adjustment requests during the fall, 2007 academic semester, with the intent of resolving the most urgent cases of salary compression and inequity.

- Michael Bitter moved to delete "strongly recommended" from pg. 23, and delete "Question 20" and "Question 21" from the Table on pg. 4.2.

- Brendan Hennessey discussed concerns regarding the question as to who has access to aggregated student teaching evaluation results.
- Motion: To have the aggregated results of the student teaching evaluation instrument, at the Division or College level, be made public.

- Regina Titunik moved to accept the new Student Feedback Form in place of the old Perceived Teaching Effectiveness form for evaluating all UH Hilo instructors and courses, including summer courses. The results of the Student Feedback Form will include comparative data, and a standard deviation measure. Guidelines will be provided to DPCs and TPRCs via the Academic Policy Committee on how to interpret such statistics.
