The difficult decision was made in the continued interest of protecting the health and welfare of UH students and those from partner universities.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Aloha UH Hilo \u02bbohana,<\/p>\n

This past summer, the University of Hawai\u02bbi at Hilo made the difficult decision to suspend all inbound and outbound student exchange programs for the fall semester of this academic year. At this time, in response to the ongoing global pandemic and after careful deliberation, we have decided to extend suspension of these programs for the spring semester as well. This includes exchange through our Center for Global Education and Exchange (CGEE) program and our National Student Exchange (NSE) program.<\/p>\n

While this was a difficult decision to make, it was made in the continued interest of protecting the health and welfare of UH students and those from our partner universities.<\/p>\n

We remain hopeful that we will be able to welcome students to our campus again starting in the Fall 2021 semester. The decision to resume exchange programs in the Fall 2021 semester will depend on events related to the pandemic, especially on the status of a vaccine. We will remain in close contact with all affected students and our partner institutions.<\/p>\n

While disappointing for all of us, especially our students, this decision was made now in order to give our students enough time to make alternate plans for the spring and subsequent terms. As the most diverse four-year public institution in the United States, UH Hilo recognizes how important our exchange programs are to maintaining and enhancing the diversity on our campus, and we remain committed to exchange programs and student mobility. We thank you for your understanding, support, and partnership during this difficult time.<\/p>\n
