UH Hilo researchers, over the course of many years, consistently find harmful bacteria, including staph and fecal indicator bacteria, in Hilo Bay. It gets worse during storm run-off.

Once a week during the school year, a single ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi word is introduced along with its meaning and an example sentence of its usage. This week’s word is hoʻomanawanui, meaning to have patience, fortitude.
