UH Hilo Interim Chancellor Marcia Sakai hosted event May 3 to recognize this year’s retirees and longtime employees’ service milestones.
Several members of the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo community were honored at the 2018 End of the Year Awards and Recognition Celebration held May 3, 2018.
Crew members gave presentations, canoe tours, and shared wayfinding lore and lessons learned from the Mālama Honua Worldwide Voyage. UH Hilo co-sponsored an educational expo featuring programs that promote “mālama honua” or care for the planet.
International Nights is a special time each year when UH Hilo students celebrate, through song and dance (and a poem this year), the many international cultures represented on campus.
There was fun with dressing up in “ugly or festive” Christmas wear, a photo booth and cookie contest. A good time was had by all.
The UH Hilo community celebrated the richness of Filipino heritage, culture and scholarship.
The event is the official beginning to students’ academic journey.
A milestone this commencement: The university celebrates the first candidates from the new Master of Arts in Heritage Management program.
