The Big Island Press Club’s annual scholarship dinner will be held on Thursday, May 5, at Hilo’s Seaside Restaurant to honor 2016 scholarship recipients.
The competition is for university-level students to design and build a mining robot that can traverse the simulated Martian chaotic terrain.
The Vulcan team finished the season at 32-17 overall and fifth in the PacWest at 21-9.
The senior right-hander started the season off with the same award after a two-hit, seven-strikeout shut out of Division I UH.
The first two students—Mayuramas “Jan” Sang-ngern and Susanne R. Youngren-Ortiz—in the Pacific region to earn a PhD in pharmaceutical sciences are taking part in UH Hilo spring commencement on May 14.
Vulcans Salim Gloyd and Bailey Gaspar capped the 2015-16 seasons by being selected UH Hilo athletes of the year.
This is his second honor of the season and fifth of his career.
