UH Hilo students to have access to Maunakea telescopes

The agreement is the result of close collaboration between UH Hilo and UH Mānoa astronomers.
The students are from the Kūʻula Integrated Science program, where they integrate western and Native Hawaiian scientific knowledge to understand the environment of Hawaiʻi.
The 2009 Mauna Kea Comprehensive Management Plan and its four sub plans—management of cultural and natural resources, decommissioning of telescopes, and public access—are guides on moving forward.
As part of outreach activities, master navigator Kalepa Baybayan—on behalf of the UH Hilo ʻImiloa Astronomy Center—gave a presentation at Hayden Planetarium at the American Museum of Natural History.
