Fighting Rapid ʻŌhiʻa Death: GoFundMe campaign created to preserve and protect ʻōhiʻa trees
“There is an old Hawaiian proverbial saying, he aliʻi ka ʻāina, he kauā ke kanaka, the land is chief and the people are its servants,” says Kalena Silva, professor with UH Hilo’s Ka Haka ʻUla o Keʻelikōlani College of Hawaiian Language. “And so we remember, that the ʻōhiʻa doesn’t need us, we need it.”
