Once at UH Hilo, the budding anthropologist Heather Leilani Kekahuna started to learn more about her heritage, including some knowledge that had been lost to her family. “I’m now teaching things to my own family and strengthening family ties through knowledge.”
Students helped at Hawai‘i Department of Health-coordinated vaccination sites over winter break, and many continue to volunteer during spring rotation blocks this semester.
In a collaboration with Chaminade University of Honolulu, UH Hilo supports an online data analytics course with university students from Hawai‘i and 10 other alliance partners located throughout the U.S.-affiliated Pacific.
Listeners will join a huaka‘i or journey clockwise around the island, starting in Hilo and moving to Puna, Ka‘ū, Kona, Kohala, and Hāmākua for a total of 24 episodes.
