The event featured both red and white poinsettias grown by UH Hilo ag students at the university’s Agricultural Farm Laboratory in Panaʻewa.
Through this semester’s meet and greet, home-cooked meals, sightseeing trips, shopping and other activities on Hawaiʻi Island, international students feel welcomed by local host families.
The students visited Gilbert Kahele Recreation Area (fun!), Waikoloa Plaza (food and shopping), Hapuna Beach Park (more fun!), and Puʻukoholā Heiau and Visitor Center (to learn some Hawaiʻi Island history).
Participants in the workshop found that, although the basic strokes look easy, it is rather difficult to control the brush, the amount of ink and the absorbency of the paper.
Student writers at Ke Kalahea earned a second place, two third places, and an honorable mention in its division from College Media Association, the nation’s largest organization dedicated to serving collegiate media.
While visiting UH Hilo to jury the university’s annual print exhibition, Laura Berman gave a public lecture and held a workshop to make a print edition with students.

Each year, UH Hilo celebrates United Nations Day with an international parade, sharing of song and dance, and informational tables, all highlighting the many different countries represented at UH Hilo. “The event demonstrates unity among different peoples and nations around the world.”
