A 17-year-old from Pepeʻekeo facing the challenges of leukemia wished for tuition assistance as a pre-engineering student at UH Hilo. His wish came true!
“Networking events like these help to slowly dissipate the invisible wall between classroom lectures and the real business world,” says finance major Hayate Moro.
The analysis will examine how UH Hilo’s degree offerings align with workforce needs across the island’s healthcare, education, agriculture and sustainability sectors.
The visit was part of Department of Defense program intended for U.S. to showcase unique resources on an international scale and trigger reciprocity across nations.
Joining the 2025-2026 PELP UH System-wide cohort were UH Hilo’s nursing professor Jeanette Ayers-Kawakami, director of the business college Todd Inouye, and senior advisor Comfort Sumida.
In a celebratory event hosted by Chancellor Bonnie Irwin, honorees include award recipients for extraordinary contributions to campus, last year’s retirees, and those celebrating milestone years of service.
A university education now must also include durable skills: problem-solving, communication, ability to work in teams, and the ability and willingness to learn new things.
Two graduating Bonner Leaders present capstone projects with transformational community impact: one connecting students on campus, one a pilot project for the local food bank.
